Year 2

Year 2 is taught by Mrs de León

Please see below the ‘Knowledge Organisers’ for the year 2 class. They contain the key knowledge that your child will be learning this term. They also show prior knowledge that will help your child be ready for the unit of work. Alongside this, the vocabulary your child will be using as part of the unit of work is also listed.

Looking at this will enable you to support your child’s learning and it can also be used together with your child to discuss their learning.
Advent Wreath Collage for Our Parish
As part of our RE module, Prophecy and Promise, we have been learning about how Advent Wreaths can help us prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus.  We have found out the names of the different candles and what they represent (the Prophet's Candle - hope; the Bethlehem Candle - love; the Shepherds' Candle - joy; the Angels' Candle - peace) and that the Advent Wreath is circular to symbolise God's never-ending love for us.  We have made a collage of an Advent Wreath for our parish that will be displayed in the Church of the Holy Spirit and St. Edward.
Puppet Making Workshop
Holly from Stuff and Nonsense Theatre Company led a wonderful puppet-making workshop for us!  We all made a fabulous rod pig puppet using only a stick, paper, masking tape, a pipe cleaner and a bit of fabric!  We had great fun and are enormously proud of the puppets that we have made.  Thank you, Holly, for showing us how to make such amazing puppets!
Farm Workshop with Wessex Wild
Chrissie from Wessex Wild led a fantastic workshop for us that included lots of interesting facts and information and some fun activities.  We learnt all about the cows and how they are reared and graze freely on their farm before looking at different habitats.  We went on a virtual 'bear hunt' through different habitats and really enjoyed the different actions we had to follow.  Thank you, Chrissie, for a great workshop!
Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi
Year 2 came to school in some wonderful animal costumes to celebrate the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi .  We brought in donations of pet food: some will be given to the local food bank for families with pets and some to Margaret Green Animal Sanctuary in Church Knowle.
CAFOD Workshop: Catholic Social Teaching
Year 2 greatly enjoyed their workshop with Bea from CAFOD, learning all about Catholic Social Teaching and how it can help guide us to make the right choices in our lives according to our faith and what action we can take to make our world better for all.  We found out about the different animals that represent the core values at the heart of Catholic Social Teaching and what this means.  We then chose one of the animals and their value and made a pledge on how we can help work for the common good.  Thank you, Bea, for your informative and valuable session.
